Iran Castillo is a Mexican celebrity whose career includes acting, hosting television shows and singing. She began modeling in television commercials when she was 7 years old and at the age of 12 she attended acting school with teachers Martha Zabeleta and Pedro Damian. She subsequently landed the starring role on the soap opera Angeles Blancos in 1989. Her acting credits include work in films, television and live theater.
In 1991 Castillo began her music career as a member of the group Mosquitas Muertas and some of her recordings were featured in the soap operas in which she starred. Her first album, Tiempos Nuevos was released in 1997 and included her only hit single, Yo Por El. Her second album, Tatuada en tus Besos, was released in 1999. She has not released a new recording since that time. She has plans to return to music as the lead singer with trip-hop, English language band, Desert Monday.
Iran Castillo has appeared in 15 television series including “Agujetas de Color de Rosa” (1994), “Retrato de Familia” and “Confidente de Secundaria” (1996), and “Preciosas” and “Sonadoras” (1998). She made appearances in “El Club de Gaby”, “Que Chavas”. “Locura de Amor” and “Aventuras en el Tiempo”. She was also featured in telenovelas” Clase 406 “and “Alborada”. Her popularity as a television actress helped launch her movie career.
In 2002 Iran Castillo was featured in the film, El Tigre de Santa Julia and she received a nomination for her role on the MTV movie awards. She starred in the 2003 film Amar Otra Vez which was released in both Mexico and the United States in 2004. In 2006 she had roles in two Mexican movies, Electos Secundarios and Amor Xtremo. She appeared in the movies Victorio (2007) and Viernes de Amimas (2011). She also played a role in Cabeza de Buda (2008) and participated in the animated film Sabel.
Iran Castillo starred in the Spanish language stage productions of the musicals Gypsy and Silvia Pinal, Castillo had previously starred in the musical Vaselina, the Spanish version of Grease, as Sandy, the female lead, and she appeared on stage in Celos-Dije. She was featured in the films Que Vivian los Muertos and La Segunda Noche which were both released in Mexico. Although she has appeared on television her primary work continues to be in movies.
In 2009 Iran Castillo acted in the films 12 Mujeres en Pugna and Los 39 Escalones and performed in the play El Mago de oz 2010. In the same year she appeared in two films, “31 Dias” and “Morgana”. In 2006 she made a brief return to television with her significant other, Romeo, in a Mexican reality show titled Bailando por la Boda de Mis Suenos. In the fall of 2006 she was featured in a photo shoot in Max Magazine and she did a second photo shoot for H magazine in 2007.
Iran Castillo is currently hosting TV show “Arriba el Telon” with co host Gerardo Quiroz. She plans to continue her music, television and movie careers although she is not under contract for any films at this time. Desert Monday has not yet released their first CD, but Castillo's fans are looking forward to her return to the music field. Although Iran Castillo is famous in her native Mexico, she has not yet achieved recognition in the U.S. or Cananda.
